How appropriate is it to use a vignette to highlight an object in a photo? Do professionals use it?

In my opinion, there is no right/wrong concept in photography. It depends on how you shoot. A pure vignette looks good on a photo with a simple central composition.

Are you shooting dogs on a blurry background close to the center of the frame? Then a vignette would probably work for you. If the composition is more complex, the background is not very blurry, or there are several objects in the picture, the vignette will probably not work for you.

By the way, the vignette is a special case of working with brightness. I am preparing a series of videos on separating the object from the background, which will be released in February and March on Instagram. And working with brightness is one of them. There will be a lot of useful information for those who are tired of vignettes and want to try something more advanced.
